HOW TO PREP YOUR VEHICLE FOR CERAMIC COATING

At Typhoon Wash Worx, we take paint prep seriously. This step-by-step guide breaks down the exact process we use before applying any ceramic coating — whether it's on a sports car, bike, or daily driver.

WHEELS & TIRES FIRST

Before touching the paint, start at the bottom. Use a dedicated bucket and brush set only for wheels and tires. These areas carry the most brake dust, road grime, and filth — you don’t want to drag that mess into your wash mitt later.

  • Clean rims, barrels, and lug nuts

  • Scrub tires with proper degreaser

  • Rinse thoroughly

Step 1

FOAM AND CONTACT WASH (DRIVER’S SIDE FIRST)

Foam one half of the vehicle at a time. Start with the driver’s side, working from top to bottom.

  1. Foam from roof to windshield, hood, bumper

  2. Then move down side panels

  3. Save the lower panels (near the floor) for last — they collect the most grime

Rinse off once you finish the first half. Then repeat the process on the passenger side.

CLAY BAR + IRON REMOVER

With the car fully rinsed, move into paint decontamination.

  • Clay Bar Treatment: Dip into the same soap bucket and gently glide across the paint to remove bonded contaminants.

  • Iron Remover: Spray and let dwell — you’ll see the fallout dissolve as it reacts.

Step 3

DRY AND INSPECT

Dry using clean microfiber towels or air blowers. Don’t introduce new swirls after all that work.

Once dry, inspect the paint under good lighting for defects.

PAINT CORRECTION

If your paint has swirls, haze, or micro scratches — now’s the time to polish or compound.

  • Use a dual-action polisher

  • Choose polish or compound based on paint hardness

  • Focus on clarity, not just shine

If no correction is needed, skip to the final prep step.

Step 5

IPA WIPE DOWN

Mix 50/50 distilled water and isopropyl alcohol. This strips any polishing oils or residues from the surface and gives the coating a clean, bare panel to bond to.

Wipe gently using clean microfiber cloths.

APPLY CERAMIC COATING AS DIRECTED
